There are many different methods for motorists in Virginia to utilize motor vehicles, including both motorcycles and traditional motor vehicles. Because of differences in size for some options, making some more at risk of injury in addition to being more difficult to see, all drivers must remain vigilant at all times. In fact, a recent motorcycle accident resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and the injury of two others.

The accident happened just before noon on a day in late September. According to reports, a 73-year-old male driver attempted a left turn into the path of 59-year-old male motorcyclist. The latter, who was wearing a motorcycle helmet, reportedly passed away as a result of his injuries.

Reports indicate that the older man was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. However, two of his passengers, a 73-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man, both suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but the surviving driver has been cited for failing to yield the right of way.

Unfortunately, a motorcycle accident such as this can easily have devastating consequences, leaving families in Virginia wonder how they will cope with an unexpected loss. With the grief of such an accident often also comes significant financial burdens as a result of funeral expenses and lost wages. If their loss is the result of another person’s negligence, surviving family members may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Though a monetary award following a successfully presented negligence claim will likely not alleviate their sense of loss, it could ensure that they are able to meet their financial responsibilities allowing them to focus on the recovery process.
